Position:  METEOROLOGIST

 

Position Summary: The primary responsibilities of the Weather Anchor are to produce and present weather information on the station's daily newscasts, local programs or special reports. Arranges and composes maps and illustrations using the weather graphics computer or other similar device. Make regular public appearances and station promotions. Performs other duties as assigned

Job Responsibilities:  Responsibilities of qualified candidates include: live and recorded broadcasts, severe weather coverage; must have the ability to constantly monitor and interpret weather data from the National Weather Service and NOAA   and have a thorough knowledge of local topography and climate patterns. The successful candidate will have a strong on-camera presence and be able to communicate information in a clear and understandable manner. Also, must be adept at telling weather stories.

We are looking for an energetic but calm person, as well as comfortable and dependable during breaking weather situations. This position is required to be on call in the event of severe weather and may be asked to provide wall-to-wall coverage at a moment’s notice. 

The position requires a strong sense of team with a strong work ethic.

You must be a multi-tasker because you'll be busy doing weather casts on air, on line, on mobile devices This position also requires a strong commitment to the station website to include social networking, web weather casting and weather reporting.

Fluent Spanish language a plus

 

Qualifications:

  • 2 – 3 years experience as on air weather caster

  • Weather seal preferred. (NWA or AMS)

  • B.S. Meteorology/journalism/communication.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of newsroom computer system and on air weather graphics.

  • Must have reporting experience, work well with people
