Sharon Chen joined San Diego 6 News as a reporter in June of 2006.
Sharon returned to her home state of California after working in Hawaii where she was a reporter and fill-in anchor at KHNL in Honolulu. Her coverage in the islands earned her two Emmy nominations and one award with the National Press Photographer's Association. Her coverage area spanned across all six islands requiring frequent flying between islands to cover stories.
Sharon started her career in the town of Scottsbluff Nebraska, population 17,000. She was the anchor of the 10:00 News at KDUH-TV, the ABC affiliate. Even though she was the main anchor, the market was so small she was also a reporter, photographer and even editor. Later she worked in the Nebraska Capital of Lincoln as the anchor/reporter of CBS affiliate KOLN-KGIN TV. Colorado Springs was Sharon's next stop at KOAA-TV, the NBC affiliate, where she covered the state's largest wildfire, the Hayman Fire which burned more than 360,000 acres destroying thousands of homes.
Sharon was born in Chicago, Illinois, but was raised in Los Angeles California. She is a graduate of California State University, San Bernardino. She also attended UCLA where she earned another degree in Broadcasting.
Now that Sharon's back home in Southern California she likes to spend time with her sister, brother and his wife. When time permits, she heads to Shanghai, China where she visits her parents. She also likes to sketch, read and write. Sharon also loves being outdoors. She likes to hike, hang out at the beach and ski when she gets a chance to head up to the mountains. She is also a big fan of NFL Football and NHL hockey. Her favorite team is the Colorado Avalanche. Go Av's!!!!
