18-month old Jenna Vaughn is like every other San Diego toddler, except for the fact that after this weekend, she’ll be known as “Baby Spock.”
When Jenna was just four-weeks-old she played “Baby Spock” in the new Star Trek movie. “I got the phone call and they said they want to use her and that she needs to be on set and she had back-up babies as well, but luckily she did everything they wanted her to do, you know, she was awake or asleep or whatever they were doing in a scene,” says Janet Vaughn, Jenna’s mother.
Janet recalls Jenna getting to work with stars like Winona Rider and Director JJ Abrams who Janet says was very nice to the Vaughn family. “We talked about his son and my son because they are the same age and we were talking about just silly things and he was just one of the kindest people I've ever met.”
Janet says at just four-weeks-old, Jenna had her own trailer on set and also had two baby nurses on hand at all times. While Janet believes Jenna won’t understand the hype of "Baby Spock" for many years to come, Janet is excited for the day when Jenna recognizes her starring role “Just the opportunity of something so grand that she can always have for the rest of her life,” says Janet.
Jenna was discovered by Jet Set, an agency based right here in San Diego. Jenna and her brother, 3-year-old Jake, have also been in several commercials.
Director JJ Abrams explains that baby Spock will be seen in the DVD edition.
