It's called Sexting.  Graphic images and videos text to friends.  It's such a problem the San Diego Police Department has an entire team dedicated to sexting and internet crimes.

Sgt. Chuck Arnold with the Internet Crimes Against Children Division told us last May, "They eventually go to a shot of breasts, to a shot of vaginal region -- something like that -- and then to where we've actually had full on videos of a strip tease and masturbation."

In his letter to parents Wednesday, deputy Anthony O'Boyle highlights sexting and the story we did at San Diego 6.  He also warns parents that it's time for them to know every aspect of what their child does with a cellphone.  "I had young ladies send naked photographs of themselves to significant others or boyfriends or young men who they may have had a crush on"

O'Boyle continued,"I've gotten numerous e-mails from parents after I sent out the letter, they are just completely unaware of this activity"

David Sesti's son plays Lacrosse at Oak Crest Middle School.  His son has told him how prevalent sexting is at the school.

Sesti says,  "I think it really comes down to parenting your kids to know what to do and be responsible and act accordingly."

Sesti admits he text's with his son while he's at school.  But he says if eliminating cell phones he would eliminate sexting, it may be worth it.  "I like being able to contact him or he can call me to come pick him up, but I don't think it's necessary at school, I didn't have it and I functioned fine."

Jeff Stout is a cellphone security expert.  He says parents have choices, "some carriers have a very good a la cart package while other carriers -- it's just a very simplistic 'all or nothing' type of arrangement."

Stout says parents can disable their child's cellphone for the hours they are at school. He uses it for his son's cell.  "You log into your website and they'll have a parental control webpage sign up for it pay your monthly charge for that parental control."
