JACUMBA - When Destiny Pierce was born almost three years ago, doctors diagnosed her with situs inverses totalis. Her organs were developing on the opposite side of her body -- as if you were looking at a mirror image of your own organs.

Her father, Anthony Pierce, says doctors gave his baby just 24 hours to live. Destiny proved doctors wrong and made it four months before having to undergo heart surgery.

"I look down and tears just start flowing out. I could see the inside of my daughter. I could see her heart pumping," Pierce remembers.

Pierce told San Diego 6, Destiny's mother admitted to takin oxycotin during the pregancy. He says he feels, "Hurt, sad. Wish I would've known, so I could've stopped it."

To makes things worse, the mother left. Pierce had to care for Destiny and her brother on his own. That's when he moved to Jacumba where he does have some relatives throughout the county.

Nearly three years later, Pierce is calling his daughter a miracle. She's strong, energetic and full of positive energy. He admits, though, everyday is a struggle.

Destiny was born without a trachea and eats, drinks and breathes through tubes. She is fed four times a day that take an hour each. Then she is fed overnight, which takes eight hours.

"This is the true meaning of unconditional love. There's nothing you wouldn't do for your little ones," says Pierce.

Pierce stopped working and going to school to care for his children. He hopes to one day become a nurse, but knows his dreams will have to wait. He says seeing Destiny get betters keeps him going.

Pierce's aunt tells us he is in desperate need of a car. The family lives all the way in Jacumba and rely on others to drive them to the doctor. If you can help, please contact: destinypierce2012@yahoo.com
