Border Patrol officer hospitalized after shooting himself in hand while cleaning gun

SAN YSIDRO (CNS) - A U.S. Border Patrol officer was hospitalized after he accidentally shot himself in the hand while cleaning his gun, it was reported Thursday.

The unidentified person was taken from the 3100 block of Tequila Way near Dairy Mart Road to UC San Diego Medical Center shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday, according to a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department dispatcher.

Five children were in the San Ysidro home when the accident happened, according to U-T San Diego.

Border Patrol officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
