California Man Convicted of Threatening Federal Judge

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- A federal jury in San Diego has found an inmate serving time for murder guilty of making threats against a federal judge in California.

The Department of Justice announced Tuesday that the jury found Eric Anthony Lopez guilty of sending a threatening letter to U.S. District Judge Irma E. Gonzalez. In the letter, Lopez stated would bring death to Gonzalez and eliminate her by using anthrax.

Lopez is serving a sentence of 25 years to life in a California prison after he was convicted of first-degree murder in 2003.

The jury convicted him last week in the threats case.

Lopez faces up to 10 years in prison at his sentencing hearing scheduled for May 14.

The U.S. attorney's office in the Northern District prosecuted the case.
