SAN DIEGO - A suspected drunken driver went through a Mission Valley freeway interchange too fast, and one of her passengers was ejected from their vehicle and killed today, CHP officers said.

Ashley Maya, 21, was allegedly drunk and driving at a high rate of speed when she navigated from northbound Highway 163 onto eastbound Interstate 8 at about 3:25 a.m., a California Highway Patrol dispatcher said.

The vehicle overturned, ejecting two of the three passengers, the dispatcher said.

One passenger was thrown from the vehicle and died on the ramp. Another sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

A third passenger was also transported to a hospital with minor injuries, he said.

Maya had no visible injuries and did not complain of pain but was examined at a hospital as a precaution, the dispatcher said.

She was booked on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and was to be transported to Las Colinas Women's Detention Facility.
