VISTA - An 18-year-old Escondido man accused of repeatedly raping and molesting a 12-year-old girl must stand trial on three felony counts, a judge ruled Thursday.

Escondido police said Jose Manuel Ayala was in the process of being deported for an immigration violation when he was arrested last October.

After a preliminary hearing today at the Vista Courthouse, Judge Richard Mills found that enough evidence was presented for Ayala to stand trial on three counts of committing a lewd act on a child. A Superior Court arraignment was set for Feb. 10.

The alleged victim first told police she was raped in September but, when questioned further, told investigators she had been raped and otherwise molested several times over a three-month period, EPD Lt. Craig Carter said.

It was unclear how she knew Ayala.
