SAN DIEGO (AP) -- San Diego prosecutors say a man has been convicted in the grisly murder of a 14-year-old girl who was found beaten and stabbed in the basement of an abandoned home.

District attorney Bonny Dumanis says 24-year-old Antero Cruz was found guilty of first degree murder and other charges on Friday.

Cruz was initially arrested 10 days after 14-year-old Ahlyja Pinson was stabbed, beaten and left to die on Dec. 31, 2007.

She was discovered alive by a homeless man but died by the time he called 911 and help arrived.

Cruz faces a maximum sentence of 26 years to life.

He is due for sentencing March 23.
