San Diego's Marijuana Seizures Are Down

Tools

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Federal officials say fewer marijuana plants were seized in San Diego County this year -- perhaps a sign that a crackdown is working.

Authorities announced Thursday that a federal, state and local task force seized nearly 200,000 pot plants from 150 locations throughout the county in the past 11 months. About 66,000 of those
plants were found on public lands such as forests.

However, the number of plants seized was down for the second year in a row.

The acting agent in charge of the DEA's San Diego office, William Sherman, says that's a sign that pressure on pot growers is driving them out of the county.

The task force also made 107 arrests from January to November, down from 118 last year.
