San Diego Police have announced the arrest of Armando Perez, the fugitive wanted since October, 2010 for the murder of his estranged wife on the campus of San Diego City College. Perez was arrested in Tijuana by Mexican officials early this morning.

On the evening of October 12, 2010, 19-year-old Diana Gonzalez was attending a class at San Diego City College when police believe Perez accosted her and killed her inside a men’s restroom. Perez then fled to Mexico after the murder and is believed to have lived there since 2010.

San Diego Police Department Homicide Unit detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Perez with murder. Additionally, the Mexican government issued a Provisional Arrest Warrant permitting Perez’ detention in Mexico for the purpose of extraditing him back to the United States.

In a statement, police said that during the past 16 months, the San Diego Police Department and the United States Marshals Service have worked tirelessly to find Perez in Mexico. This morning, at approximately 0330 hours, Tijuana Metropolitan Police officers arrested Perez on Avenida Revolucion in Tijuana. No additional details will be released regarding the arrest.

Perez will be transported to Mexico City, where he will be afforded an extradition hearing prior to his return to the United States.
