Pacific Beach Man Arrested for Animal CrueltyPACIFIC BEACH - A 35-year-old man was behind bars today for allegedly barging into a house on Crown Point and kicking the owner's dog so severely that the resident thought his dog was being killed. The dog's owner called police for help about 4:40 p.m. Friday when the alleged assailant, later identified as Brian Minch, had entered the man's house and was kicking and punching the dog, said San Diego police Officer David Stafford.
Alex Lopez told dispatchers that the invader was inside the Lopez's house, in the 3700 block of Yosemite Street, near Moorland Drive.
Lopez told police that Minch had earlier walked up to Lopez's fenced yard, extended his hand to the dog, and then yelled at the dog to stop licking his hand, Stafford said.
Minch allegedly punched the dog eight to 10 times and kicked the dog twice while in the yard, Stafford said. The dog ran into his master's house with the assailant following, chasing the animal into a bedroom.
Lopez told police he heard the dog squealing desperately, Stafford said.
Officers arriving at the house found Minch had left, but found him nearby at Riviera and Moorland drives, where he was arrested, Stafford said.
Minch was booked into San Diego Central Jail for suspicion of cruelty to animals and residential burglary, according to jail records and police.
The dog was taken to a local animal hospital. The dog's owners say despite a limp and some bumps, the dog is going to be okay.
