SAN DIEGO -- As of Wednesday morning, police are still looking for the man who harrassed and exposed himself to students in Rancho Bernardo. Police and school officials are urging Rancho Bernardo students to take extra precautions after a female student said she was flashed Tuesday by a man in his 50s.
Another female student told police she was harassed by a man matching the suspect's description earlier that morning, Lt. Andra Brown said.
A 16-year-old female student was walking to a bus stop around 6:30 a.m. near Poblado Road and West Bernardo Drive when she said a white man in his 50s drove up in a newer model 4-door dark-colored compact car, Brown said.
The man got out of the car and started walking behind the girl without saying anything, following her so closely that their bodies almost touched. The girl ran to the bus stop and the man ran back to his car, said Brown.
The girl told police the man was about 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall with a thin build, had graying hair and wore a dark blue pullover and tan khaki pants. The girl also said the man's car had an orange blanket covering the rear seat.
Shortly after 7 a.m., an 18-year-old female student was walking to school near an apartment complex on Avenida Alcachofa when she said a man fitting the same description in the first incident approached her.
Police said the man exposed his genitals to her and said, "Do you want some of this?" The man then ran away. The 18-year-old victim did not see the suspect get into a car, Brown said.
"Especially in this area, it's kind of a surprise," said Kimberly Wise. Wise's daughter, Mackenzie, is a sophomore at Rancho Bernardo.
"This is our home, and this is a nice area. It just feels like something that wouldn't happen [here]," said 15-year-old Mackenzie Wise.
Both incidents were reported to Rancho Bernardo High School officials, who then notified police shortly before 8 a.m.
District officials sent an email to all parents urging students to stay alert and walk in groups. No additional incidents were reported Wednesday morning.
