A man is behind bars Thursday after taking police on a short pursuit through San Diego's Memorial neighborhood.

The chase started around 10:30 p.m., when the suspect refused to pull over for officers, according to police. The man took off going off-road through a field, finally crashing into a gate.

He took off on foot leading police on a foot chase and tried to hide out in an empty pool, but officers watching from  SDPD's helicopter spotted him using infrared and led officers right to his hiding place, police said.

Police had to use K9 officers to get the suspect to surrender.

The man was transported to a local hospital with a head injury and several dog bites.
