An Escondido man was arrested in connection with the shooting death of 20-year-old Morayma Denise Rodriguez, whose body was found in a rural area north of Escondido three days ago, sheriff's officials said.

Jeffrey Steven McCreary, 42, was arrested in the 1100 block of North Broadway in Escondido by members of the Sheriff's Special Enforcement Detail following a brief vehicle pursuit, sheriff's Lt. Larry Nesbit said.   "He will be booked for one count of murder at the Vista Detention Facility," Nesbit said.

McCreary sustained an abrasion to his forehead during the arrest but refused medical treatment, Nesbit said.

Nesbit said search warrants had been filed in connection with the case, but they had been sealed and he could not talk about them.

He also would not say if a weapon had been recovered.

Nesbit would not comment on the relationship between McCreary and the victim and did not offer a possible motive for the crime.

"The case is ongoing. It's being presented to the DA next week," Nesbit said. "The case is still developing."

A passer-by found Rodriguez's body Wednesday afternoon in the 28000 block of Lawrence Welk Court, in an unincorporated area of San Marcos, according to sheriff's officials.

Rodriguez was shot multiple times, the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office reported.
