Accused Child Molester Caught at the Border

SAN DIEGO - Federal agents staffing San Ysidro Port of Entry over the weekend arrested a fugitive wanted in the Pacific Northwest on child molestation charges, authorities reported Monday.

A Customs and Border Protection officer discovered that 31-year-old Carlos Fonseca Palacios was the subject of an arrest warrant in Tacoma, Wash., while running his name through a computer database in a pedestrian-processing area at the inspection station about 7 a.m. Sunday, according to CBP public affairs.

Palacios was booked into county jail in downtown San Diego to await extradition.

Federal personnel working the six ports of entry along the California- Mexico border also arrested a dozen other criminal suspects between 6 a.m. Friday and 6 this morning, officials said. The fugitives were being sought on various charges, including fraud, burglary and parole violations.

The agents also seized 633 pounds of illegal narcotics over the three- day period.
