EL CAJON - An Alpine man was convicted Monday of attempted murder and mayhem for beating his former girlfriend, then dousing her legs with a flammable liquid and setting her afire in his trailer off Japatul Road.

Todd Andrew Wimler, 47, will be sentenced March 12 by El Cajon Judge John Thompson.

The victim -- a single mother of three teenage sons -- suffered first- and second-degree burns, a ruptured spleen and injuries to her face and respiratory tract in the Dec. 6, 2008, attack.

Wilmer was arrested a short time later when sheriff's deputies found him hiding in a nearby ravine.

He pleaded guilty Nov. 24 to violating his probation from an earlier felony assault against the same woman and was sentenced to three years in prison.
