EL CAJON (CNS) - A minister and music teacher who molested three boys he met through church mentoring programs was sentenced Tuesday to 17 years and four months in state prison.

Jimmie Xray Robinson, 48, pleaded guilty in April to three counts of lewd acts on children. He also admitted having substantial sexual contact with the victims and committing prior felonies.

Robinson was associated with five churches in San Diego and Riverside counties.

According to Deputy District Attorney Genaro Ramirez, the defendant molested a boy under the age of 14 for "over a year" between 2000-2002 in the city of San Diego. The case was investigated but no charges were filed, Ramirez said.

"That victim as a result of his molestation was traumatized and is actually in state prison now," the prosecutor said. He didn't specify what crime the victim committed.

The second victim, aged 15, was molested in 2005 in San Diego, but that case also did not result in charges being filed, the prosecutor said.

The third victim, aged 14, was assaulted late last year in El Cajon, and ended up being the one who broke the case because he reported the crime immediately, the prosecutor said.

The youngster showed presence of mind when he "didn't cleanse himself to get rid of physical evidence," Ramirez said.

The prosecutor said DNA connected Robinson to the molestation, and El Cajon police detectives took another look at the previous allegations against the minister.

The defendant has prior convictions in 1997 and 1998 for assault with a deadly weapon and abuse of a cohabitant with a deadly weapon, both in San Diego County.

Members of a fugitive task force arrested Robinson on Jan. 24 while he was playing piano at a church service in the Stockton district of San Diego.

Robinson, known to the teens by his legal middle name of "Xray," conducted mentoring programs on his own, not through the churches, according to the El Cajon Police Department.

Mother Steps Forward

EL CAJON - After seeing our initial San Diego 6 News report about the arrest of minister Jimmie "Xray" Robinson, a mother has come forward to tell us how she believes he tried to move-in on her son.

"I felt that he could help him because I believed that he was a true, spiritual leader and that he had the kid's best interest at heart," said the single mother. She asked not to be identified but says she's compelled to tell her story to encourage others to speak-out about a man she's certain has targeted many children in San Diego.

She says it was the summer of 2004 when she met Robinson, who goes by Xray, through a friend who vouched for him as a youth minister.

Her son was 12 and interested in music. She says Robinson, who teaches music, offered access to a recording studio but instead of the studio, he took her son to a gay-pride parade, insisting on holding the boy's hand against his wishes.

"He said he teaches the group that God loves everybody -- he's inclusive and this-and-that," explained the mom. "And I told him 'That's fine, everybody has their own beliefs,' but I have my own and if my son doesn't want to do something don't force him."

Her son still wanted to see the studio. Another trip was allowed but she says it was again side-tracked.

"Mom, he took me to his house," the boy told his mother. She explained what happened next. "He says that he had to stop and get something -- he forgot something -- but then he got busy."

She said her son told her, "'And then he started asking me if I knew about sex. And he was trying to show me how to put condoms on -- how to use them.'

She had words with Robinson again but she allowed her son to go with him a third time to see the studio. This trip ended abruptly as the two got into an argument.

"He said, 'Mom, he acts like I'm in his girlfriend or something,' You know what I'm saying? I was like, Oh, my God -- my heart sank," said the mother.

After that she never allowed her son see Xray again.

This woman doesn't believe her boy was molested but now feels certain that was the intent of Jimmie Xray Robinson.
