ESCONDIDO - A hit-and-run driver with a profusely bleeding head ran away from the scene of a two-car collision on Del Dios Highway Wednesday.

The crash at Date Lane was reported at 6:40 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

A witness reported seeing one of the drivers flee on foot, CHP Officer Ray Scheidnes said, adding that the motorist was bleeding from the head.

One of the vehicles involved overturned but it was not immediately whether the vehicle was driven by the suspect or the another motorist.

Paramedics took the driver of the second car who had remained at the scene to Palomar Medical Center, said a dispatcher with the North County Fire Protection District.

The area is south of Escondido and Via Rancho Parkway, near Lake Hodges.

A Sig Alert for the area was issued at 7:15 a.m and ended about 45 minutes later.

The CHP describes the man who left as a Hispanic male in his late 30s or early 40s, 6'0" with short black hair.   They say he may have left in a white Ranger pickup with a black bed, last seen driving towards Del Mar.
