Students and parents are celebrating in one North County school district.

They're relieved the Poway Unified School District decided to accommodate a sophomore class at Del Norte High School in 4S Ranch.

That class was in jeopardy because of low enrollment.

Now the district says there will be enough transfer students from private and charter schools to fund the sophomore class.

A few students who were previously home schooled, also plan to attend the new campus.

"I couldn't be happier.  The concern before was we wouldn't be able to support the full array of courses that some students will need to be college ready and have competitive transcripts," said Greg Mizel.

Mizel is the principal of Del Norte High School.

He says he had about 200 confirmed sophomores last week but the district wanted at least 230 students to guarantee funding.

The situation looked bleak until Monday night when the school district announced it that transfer students will make up the difference.

"It's very gratifying," said Jenny McNulty.

Her daughter is leaving a private school to attend Del Norte as a sophomore this fall.

"I think she's going to get a better education.  I think she's going to have more social involvement.  I think she's going to have many more opportunities," said McNulty.

Students like Christina Azar says they are excited about all the possibilities.

"We have more opportunities to start in ASB, to start all our sports, we get to pick them, we get to pick everything," said Azar.
