SAN DIEGO - A motorist was arrested Tuesday after ramming a motorcycle officer's parked two-wheeler during a traffic stop in Logan Heights and speeding off, authorities reported.

The patrolman pulled over the driver's full-size truck in the 3300 block of Ocean View Boulevard (map A) shortly before 10:30 a.m., according to San Diego Police.

After the officer pulled to a stop behind the pickup and was walking toward the cab, the motorist suddenly backed up, striking the motorcycle and knocking it over, she said. The man then drove off, leaving the area to the north on 33rd Street and east on Market Street, according to police.

The patrolman was uninjured.

About an hour later, another officer spotted a truck matching the description of the fugitive driver's vehicle near the intersection of Delta and 39th streets in the Shelltown area (map B), about a mile from the site of the initial traffic stop.

The officer pulled over the driver, questioned him and took him into custody.

The suspect's name was not immediately available.

A flatbed truck was dispatched to pick up the damaged police motorcycle and take it to a garage for repairs.
