DULZURA - Flames blackened about 40 acres Friday along Highway 94 west of Dulzura, but no buildings were damaged and no firefighters injured, a Cal Fire official said.
The blaze broke out around 10:45 a.m. near the U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint and spread up a hillside before it was contained about two hours later, said Roxanne Provaznik of Cal Fire.
The fire burned in an "island" of fuel that was left untouched by the Harris Fire of 2007, Provaznik said.
More than 100 firefighters battled the fire with the help of four air tankers and three helicopters. The U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Border Patrol, Sheriff's Department and other agencies lent assistance, she said.
