EL CAJON - Fires around the county damaged three homes Wednesday.
A fire caused about $50,000 worth of damage to an East County apartment and its contents Wednesday.
A resident of the complex in the 400 block of Jamacha Road in El Cajon made an emergency call after hearing a smoke alarm from an adjoining unit and seeing smoke billowing into the outside air about 1 p.m., fire department spokeswoman Monica Zech said.
It took crews about 10 minutes to extinguish the flames, which caused no reported injuries, Zech said.
The American Red Cross was called in to help a man, who was displaced by the blaze, arrange for interim housing.
The second blaze occurred around 1:30 p.m. at a house on Kemerton Road in Scripps Ranch, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
Two adults and two children were displaced by the fire, but no one was hurt, department spokesman Maurice Luque said.
The blaze was sparked by a faulty water heater and caused about $150,000 in structure damage and another $150,000 in content losses, he said.
The third fire at a house on Ontario Street in Escondido occurred around 6:15 p.m., according to the Escondido Fire Department.
EFD Lt. Jim Stuard said the home's occupant was displaced but not injured. The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
