SAN MARCOS - A thief armed with a silver pistol robbed a San Marcos Subway restaurant Wednesday.

The bandit, who appeared to be in his 30s or early 40s, entered the restaurant in the 600 block of South Rancho Santa Fe Road about 10:30 a.m., displayed the revolver and ordered a clerk to hand over money from the register, sheriff's Sgt. Charles Cinnamo said.

After the employee gave him an undetermined amount of cash, the robber ordered her to lie on the ground. She did and he fled.

A witness watched the man get into a beige, late-1990s or early 2000s-model Cadillac outside the restaurant and drive away to the north.

The thief was described as a roughly 5-foot-8-inch, 180-pound Latino in gray sweat pants, a navy-blue hooded sweat shirt, white tennis shoes and black baseball cap, Cinnamo said.
