Homeless Experience
Walking Point Loma Nazarene University's beautiful ocean-side campus, poverty is not necessarily the first thing that comes to mind.
But a group of about 30 students made thinking about poverty almost unavoidable.
They created what they called "slum town" right in the middle of campus.
Inspiration came from a $2 dollar a day program began at Mary Washington University in Virginia. The idea, group organizers said, is that a third of the world lives on less than $2 a day--so why not try seeing how far $2 can take you?
Point Loma Nazarene's micro finance club organized the event, headed up by the group's president Rashawna Chapman. "With this event we thought it would be perfect to show people what poverty is....There are so many people who don't know the statistics about poverty around the world."
Students were allowed to go to class and study in the library, if need be.
But they were not allowed to take a shower, use electronics outside, or accept food or drink from anyone else.
All 30 participants pooled their $2 a day and bought food together (mostly rice and beans). They shared in cooking duties, including boiling water for two hours beginning at 6 AM.
The group will continue to fundraise for HOPE International and Vitamin Angels.
Organ Donation
If you have that pink dot on your drivers license signifying that you agree to be an organ donor, it may not be enough.
Lifesharing says they have come up with a new way to make organ donation much more efficient.
They say potential donors can sign up on their website so doctors and hospitals can have direct access to the information.
One organ donor can save 8 lives and one tissue donor can effect 50 lives.
Right now, 16-percent of San Diegans are signed up to be organ donors and Lifesharing wants to increase that number.

Easter Meal
Tomorrow hundreds of homeless people will get a hot meal and easter baskets, in honor of the upcoming holiday.
The San Diego Rescue Mission will serve more than 1,000 dinners tomorrow, including ham, potatoes, salad and rolls.
The meals will be served from two to five p-m at the mission on elm street.
More than 100 volunteers will help pass out the food, and easter treats for the children.
The rescue mission is able to provide shelter, long-term treatment and work therapy for the homeless, without government funding.
