Horse Auction

To help balance its budget, San Diego is selling its seven police horses via an online auction.

Wam, Trigger, Major, Junior, Bret, Bandit and Austin, who have been used to patrol Balboa Park, will be sold, as will their tack.

The horses are between nine and twelve years old.

The horse unit, started in 1983, is disbanding and the officers have been assigned to other units.

The horse auction is set for Feb. 1 through Feb 10 on the Web site Publicsurplus.com.

Potential buyers can see the horses Feb. 4, from 9 a.m. until noon, at the police stables.

Gas Prices

The utility consumer action network says this is the first year that gas was $3 a gallon on January 1st, a record high at a time when gas is normally at the lowest price of the year.
