HILLCREST - One person was taken to a hospital after a fire destroyed at least one unit in a two-story apartment building in San Diego Tuesday night.
The fire was reported at 8:26 p.m. at 230 W. Walnut Ave. (MAP A), according to a dispatcher for the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
The condition of the injured person was not immediately known, the dispatcher said.
It took 28 firefighters 17 minutes to knock down the fire and another 13 minutes to knock down all the flames.
The dispatcher said another unit was also damaged, possibly from water damage.
A second fire broke out around 9:20 p.m. in the 1000 block of East Lexington Avenue (MAP B). That fire was quickly put out and medics treated one person for smoke inhalation.
San Marcos Fire
A San Marcos elementary school was evacuated Tuesday afternoon because of a brush fire.
That fire started after 2 p.m. off N. Twin Oaks Valley Road near La Cienega Road.
The fire burned about ten acres before crews were able to stop the flames.
Initially, the fire was threatening buildings nearby and, according to some reports, Twin Oaks Elementary School was evacuated only as a precaution.
One rancher says he was getting ready to pack up and leave but realized the firefighters had it under control.
"It was moving pretty fast," John Munoz told San Diego 6. "We were ready to get the horses out but the firemen said they would stop it pretty fast."
No structures were damaged. The cause of this fire is under investigation.
