SAN DIEGO - Authorities released the name of a 20-year-old college student who died in a hospital this week, five days after the Honda Civic he was riding in was rear-ended in Mira Mesa.

Jeremy Pallon was a rear seat passenger in the car when it was hit on southbound Interstate 15, near Carroll Canyon Road, around 8 p.m. last Friday, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

Traffic had slowed to a near stop in a construction zone, but a vehicle behind the car Pallon was riding in did not slow in time.

Pallon, a Cal State San Marcos student, was pinned inside the Civic after it was hit by the Ford Explorer, the Medical Examiner's Office reported.

Paramedics managed to pull Pallon from the wreckage and transported him to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he died from at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

San Diego police were investigating the crash. So far there have been no reports as to whether the driver of the Explorer was cited or arrested.
