LAKESIDE - A Lakeside man apparently committed suicide after ramming his pickup truck into his wife's house.  She had a restraining order against him.

The unnamed man died shortly after that first accident, when he then crashed his pickup into a palm tree in the 9000 block of Blossom Valley Road shortly after 10:30 p.m. Thursday, according to San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. Trinidad Tejeda.

He rammed his truck into the tree, causing both the tree and the truck to burst into flames, the sergeant said, adding that positive identification was pending due to the man's charred remains.

Investigators believe minutes before crashing into the palm tree, the same pickup truck slammed into a house at 8694 Via Del Luz, Tejeda said. The impact broke a gas line, sparking a fire and damaging the structure.

No one was hurt in that accident, but two people were displaced, according to a Heartland fire dispatcher.

Tejeda did not immediately confirm the relationship between the man and the resident of the house, but early reports suggested the man's wife lived there.
