SAN DIEGO - A University City neighborhood gathered for a private remembrance of four family members tragically killed one year ago when a fighter jet crashed into their home.
Just before noon on December 8th an FA-18 jet lost power in both engines and fell a mile short of Miramar Marine Corps Air Station.
"I came to the front yard and boy I saw nothing but flames." says Choko McConnell, who lives across the street from the crash.
The jet crashed into two homes on Cather Avenue.
It jet unleashed a fireball that killed a grandmother, mother and her two young girls.
The pilot, who ejected right before the crash, continues to fly for the Marine Corps, and has been promoted to Captain.
Officials say they do not hold him responsible because it was a joint decision by him and his commanders not to direct the plane to San Diego's North Island Naval Air Station, which would have avoided the residential area.
On Cecember 11th there will be another tree lighting ceremony for the community in Stanley Park.
