SAN DIEGO -- A motorcyclist was killed shortly before 7:00 Wednesday morning in the Sabre Springs neighborhood.

The victim is 24-year old Ariestotel Calumba Timbol of San Diego, according to the County Medical Examiner.

San Diego police issued a SigAlert for the area and closed Sabre Springs Parkway from Poway Road  to Ted Williams Parkway for several hours while they investigated the crash.

The crash happened just before 7:00 Wednesday morning at the intersection of Sabre Springs Parkway and Morning Creek Drive South.

Investigators estimate Timbol was speeding in excess of 100 mph when he lost control of his motorcycle, ran into the center island and hit a tree.

Timbol had just received his motorcycle learner's permit five days ago, according to police.

The 2007 Suzuki GSR-1000 motorcycle disintegrated when it hit the tree.  Timbol died at the scene.
