A North County physician has been arrested by federal agents for providing illegal prescriptions.

Dr. Jeffrey Yusim, 50, was arrested by Drug Enforcement Administration Agents during an investigation that began in January.

The DEA says Yusim, a board certified physician, routinely gave prescriptions to undercover agents posting as patients.  The agents did not present legitimate medical reasons for requesting the medications, according to the DEA.

They say the prescriptions were often for highly addictive and often abused drugs including OxyContin, Vicodin, Ambien and Phenergan with Codeine cough syrup.

Federal agents raised Yusim's home and office in Vista Wednesday with search warrants.   They say during the search of his home they found five loaded handguns, three rifles, drugs that included morphine, Hydrocodone and Xanax.

They also seized more than a half pound of marijuana and several thousand dollars.
