OCEANSIDE - Fire heavily damaged an Oceanside condominium Wednesday night.

Three adults, a child and a dog escaped the fire unharmed at the condo near Camp Pendleton.

The occupants called North Comm fire dispatch around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday to report that the oven area and cabinets were on fire at 4273 Rockport Bay Way, said Oceanside Fire Battalion Chief Bob Cotton. A dispatcher told the woman everyone inside should leave, he said.

Firefighters first on the scene reported that smoke and flames were coming out of the lower floor of the two-story condominium, according to Cotton.

Oceanside police officers evacuated residents of adjacent units, he said. Firefighters knocked the blaze down by 6:05 p.m., Cotton said.

The fire was confined to the kitchen and dining room area, but there was smoke damage throughout the unit, he said. No other units were damaged.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
