Armed with the latest technology, several hundred officers around the county say they now have a leg-up on criminals.
In this one of a kind program, officers can browse 13,000 pictures of gang members and their tattoos on PDA's while the officers patrol the streets.
In seconds they can see if someone they spot on the streets has a criminal record or is wanted for arrest.
"Since I have had this PDA, I have been able to ID more people and arrest more people that normally would have gotten away and slipped through the cracks -- because of their identity and trying to hide their identity," said Cpl. Steve Shephard of the National City Police Department.
Right now, 600 officers around the county have the PDA's. 300 more are expected to get them soon.
