EL CAJON - A suspected drunk driver ran over a 35-year-old woman, killing her.

The deadly crash happened near the 12-hundred block of Pepper Drive in El Cajon.

Friends of Dee Dee Kohlmeyer reflect on a happy-go-lucky mother of three.

Jae Forsythe, Kohlmeyer's friend, said  "Dee Dee was like a spring of lovely personality.  She was always energetic.  She always had a smile.  Always glad to see you."

All that was wiped away Saturday night.  CHP officers say Kohlmeyer was walking along Pepper Drive when 51-year-old Deborah Felix ran her over.  Felix was driving a full-size Dodge pick-up.  Investigators supect she was drunk.

Forsyhte said, "I'm mad.  I am upset with that persons choices at the same time I am empathetic."

Investigators say Felix's wild ride didn't end with her hitting Kohlmeyer.  She then plowed through several mailboxes, then rammed into the back of a parked pickup truck.  Finally a house stopped her in her tracks.  She hit the corner of a garage.

Jose Ramos caught up with a dazed driver.  "She started saying like I am a good person.  I didn't hurt anybody. She tried to walk away - - tried to disappear," said Ramos.

Neighbors didn't let her escape. They made sure she stayed put until police arrived.

California Highway Patrol Officer Brian Pennings said, "They saw Ms. Felix in the seat of her car and saw her start to run from the scene.'' Pennings added, "They caught up to her and detained her.''

Kohlmeyer had been walking to the Coo Coo club for a night of karaoke.

Robert White, Kohlmeyer's friend, said  "The owner actually had me stop karaoke, and announce if anyone known Dee Dee."

Robert White was waiting for his friend to come and sing some tunes.

White said, "Great! Light-hearted person, wonderful mother, wonderful person, wonderful friend.  Just an all around good person."

CHP investigators say Felix was taken to a hospital and arrested on suspicion of felony drunken driving. She'll also face a vehicular manslaughter charge.
