The call for community service was a cornerstone of the Obama campaign. Now it's part of the agenda. President Obama is calling on citizens to volunteer.
In action and in ads, Obama has called for volunteers to help rebuild and renew America.
Seth Connolly works for Volunteer San Diego, a clearing house for people who want to get involved. His agency has seen a new intererest in community service.
"There has been a major uptick over the last 6 months," said Seth.
Meanwhile, AmeriCorp volunteers cut brush for burned out homeowners as part of their effort to rebuild America.
Chelsea Williams of Americorps has volunteered to work for a year wherever there is need.
"We do national and community service," said Chelsea, who is excited that now there is a national push to volunteer. "Its about time we discussed it on a national level."
