El CAJON - A Mira Mesa woman who broke into lockers at the 24 Hour Fitness Center in Santee while pretending to work out, stealing nearly $5,000 in belongings, was sentenced Tuesday to three years in prison.
Tina Waider, 36, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to four counts of grand theft and one count of burglary. She was ordered to pay $4,800 in restitution to her victims by El Cajon Judge Allan Preckel.
Sheriff's deputies said Waider opened locks with a simple homemade device and stored the stolen property in a gym bag, which she put in her locker. Other stolen items were found in the defendant's car, sheriff's Sgt. Tom Poulin said.
Among the stolen items found in Waider's possession were a $1,600 watch and a purse containing about $400 worth of merchandise, the sergeant said.
A later search of the defendant's home turned up hundreds of other stolen items, including gift cards, jewelry, make-up and high-end clothing, according to Poulin.
