SAN DIEGO - Many people partying as 2009 became 2010 were startled to see what appeared to be a UFO in the skies above San Diego early Friday morning.

Shortly after midnight, the phones started ringing off the hook at San Diego 6.  One caller after another was startled by the sight of three red lights in the sky.

"This is going to sound crazy," one caller told us.  "But I didn't know who else to call.  There's a UFO we're been watching hover in the sky."

"My young son is going out of his mind," another mom said.  "The whole family is looking at this thing.  We've never seen anything like it."

The callers described a triangle of red lights that were moving together and starting to blink out.  This description sounded identical to the series of stories we covered last year of similar reports that turned out to be Chinese Sky Lanterns, small hot-air balloons sent aloft by a flame.  As the fuel is exhausted, the lights go out and the balloons fall back to the ground.

Of course, if it was really visitors from another planet, prepare to bow down to our new overlords.
