Police nabbed dozens of driver who did not have valid drivers licenses at an Oceanside checkpoint Wednesday.

It was an effort to combat unlicensed drivers and minimize hit and run accidents.

In Oceanside, there are two to three hit-and-run accidents every day.

Police say they have found a direct correlation between hit-and-runs and unlicensed drivers. But some bystanders say checkpoints like these are unfair to illegal immigrants.

"Why are we here criminalizing these people when all they want to do is work? Why? Does that make sense?" says a bystander who would only say that her first name is Tami.

But Jeff Schwilk, Founder of the San Diego Minutemen disagrees. "You drive in America and it's a privilege -- and you need to be licensed."

Driving without a license is a misdemeanor.

Oceanside police conduct these checkpoints twice a month.
