VISTA - A skateboarder died Sunday when he rode into the path of an oncoming car and was struck.
He's identified as 24-year-old Christopher Toraason Pompa, a college student who lived with his family in Vista.
The collision took place around 1 a.m. in the 1600 block of Hacienda Drive.
Pompa was pronounced dead at the scene.
Patricia Pompa remembers a phenomenal son.
Pompa said, "He loved to teach people things especially about the ocean, and his love for the ocean. He was a great surfer and swimmer."
Christopher Pompa certainly lived through the sea. He was a lifeguard at the Carlsbad State Beach. Pompa also touched the lives of young men with the Rancho Buena Vista High School water polo team.
Pompa said, "He will be missed. He will be very missed."
Everything came to halt early Sunday morning at around one. Sheriff deputies say a 23-year old man driving a white BMW hit Christopher as he skateboarded down Hacienda Drive on the bike lane. Pompa just left a party. His mom remembers their last conversation.
Pompa remembers, "He said I am going to be home early, because I have to get up and work tomorrow."
Pompa had originally been picked up to go to the party. He left it walking, because of concerns he had.
She said, "He didn't want to drive home with the people, because they were partying, and you know he just didn't want to get into the car."
The driver who ran Christopher over was not arrested, but sheriff deputies say they are investigating.
Christopher also worked at the Vista Costco. He was in culinary school aspiring to be a chef.
Patricia Pompa tells us her son still keeps on giving. His organs will be donated.
