SAN DIEGO - A woman was arrested at the U.S.-Mexico border Thursday when federal officers staffing San Ysidro Port of Entry found a nine-pound stash of marijuana inside her daughter's stroller.

A service dog alerted the agents to the presence of contraband inside the baby carriage after the 38-year-old woman and 6-year-old child entered the inspection station in southern San Diego about 5:45 a.m., according to Customs and Border Protection public affairs.

The officers searched the stroller, finding three wrapped bundles of cannabis inside a zippered seat compartment.

The woman, a U.S. citizen and Tijuana resident, was arrested and taken to Las Colinas women's jail in Santee, where she was booked on suspicion of drug smuggling.

Her daughter was transported to a children's shelter to be housed pending resolution of her permanent custody.
