SAN DIEGO - All but a half-dozen of about 250 South Park-area homes left without water service overnight due to a pipeline break were back on line late Tuesday morning.

The ruptured 12-inch-diameter cast-iron main in the 2300 block of Boundary Street was reported about 7:30 p.m. Monday, according to the San Diego Water Department.

Crews worked through the night to shut off the resulting overflow from the broken pipe, getting the problem under control shortly before 8:30 a.m., SDWD spokesman Arian Collins said. No structural flooding was reported.

The city sent in four "water wagons" to serve affected residents.

By 11 a.m., only six homes on Pentuckett Avenue remained without working plumbing, according to Collins. Crews expected to water service restored to those residences by early evening, he said.
