WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House says President Barack Obama will make a decision about the U.S. role in Afghanistan in coming weeks but believes having a partner there is going to take more than just one election.
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Thursday that Obama spoke with the U.S. ambassador to Kabul by video conference as part of the administration's ongoing review. National security adviser James Jones, chief of staff Rahm Emanuel and staff from the National Security Council also joined the meeting with Ambassador Karl Eikenberry in the White House Situation Room.
Gibbs said the group spoke for an hour about the coming Afghan election. He also said that a single day of voting is not going to resolve all questions about the war-torn country.
