Donald hoping to find a major to go with ranking
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — Luke Donald knows by now that being No. 1 in the world does not making winning majors any easier.
The PGA Championship is the seventh straight major in which Donald is atop the world ranking, and he has been No. 1 longer than any other player to have not won a major. His final chance is at rain-soaked Kiawah Island, and the Englishman thinks he has figured them out.
The low point came at the U.S. Open, where Donald missed the cut. He rallied on the last day at the British Open to tie for fifth. Donald says he learned at Royal Lytham that even if he's not playing well, he can still learn to score.
He also found inspiration from Ernie Els' rally to win the Open.
