RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — A convicted rapist has been arrested for the 1986 murder of a San Bernardino County woman whose remains were found two years later.

San Bernardino County sheriff's detectives arrested 53-year-old Larry Hite on Tuesday in Riverside. He was expected to be charged with murder on Wednesday and remained jailed on $1 million bail.

Hite is suspected of killing 28-year-old Nancy Klinger of Highland. Authorities say the single mother of three went missing in 1986 after she had gone to meet Hite.

Her remains were found two years later in a remote area of Highland.

Authorities didn't disclose what evidence prompted them to seek an arrest warrant two decades later.

Hite was released from an Arizona prison last year after serving time for two rapes.
