SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A California State University, Sacramento student accused of beating to death his roommate has been charged with murder and assaulting a peace officer.
Prosecutors filed the charges against 19-year-old Quran Jones, who remains in the hospital after being shot by police. He's been upgraded from fair to good condition since the Oct. 21st incident.
Authorities say Jones beat 23-year-old Scott Hawkins with a baseball bat during a rampage in their five-person suite. Officers opened fire after they say Jones lunged at them with a knife.
Investigators haven't released a motive for the killing, and relatives and roommates say the two did not have any apparent conflict.
No court date has been set yet for Jones.
