It is important to stay focused not only on the custody portion of the case, but the financial aspects as well. As such I have provided Task Lists for both aspects of a dissolution proceeding.

FINANCIAL

If you are the spouse that is not actively involved in the finances, you need to immediately do the following:

1. Identify where all of the bank accounts are located and their current balance.

2. Identify all of the debts and their current monthly payments.

3. Identify the location of all 401Ks, IRAs, pension, retirement plans, etc.

4. Identify your spouse's income if you do not know.

5. Obtain copies of all the above items. Keep a copy with you, but also keep a copy off-site with a trusted friend or relative.

6. Obtain a calendar, both a hard copy and on the computer* to track important events. Maintain both calendars incase either one or both are missing. *Realize that there are many programs that can be put on your computer that will allow your spouse to see exactly what you were doing.

7. Make copies of any additional important financial papers and have a copy maintained off-site.

8. Make an inventory list of all personal items in your house. If you have expensive artwork, paintings, etc. take photos of them and have them removed off site.

9. Make an inventory list of every room with a pad of paper, going from room to room.

10. *Most importantly remove all sentimental items that are not replaceable from your residence and place them with a family member or trusted friend.

CHILDREN

1. Obtain copies of all of your children's school records for the last two years, including proof of drop off and pick-ups, and which parent is doing the majority of the transportation.

2. Keep a calendar of agreements, and if both parties or one is not completing the agreement, go back and take time to think back on what has transpired in the last year.

3. Consider counseling as a way for you to heal and help your children during this difficult time.
