The National Hockey League suspended New York Rangers rookie forward Dane Byers one game for his role in a fight during the third period of Tuesday's loss at Vancouver.

Byers was assessed an instigator penalty with 1:10 remaining. According to league rules, an automatic one-game suspension shall be doled out if a player receives an instigator penalty in the final five minutes of regulation or at any point in overtime.

Additionally, the head coach -- in this case John Tortorella -- is fined $10,000.
